🌄 What Is Cappuccino Day?

National Cappuccino Day honors that classic Italian blend of espresso, steamed milk, and frothy foam. Traditionally, a cappuccino is one-third espresso, one-third steamed milk, and one-third foam — equal parts strength and softness.

It’s the kind of drink that slows you down, invites you to savor the moment, and pairs perfectly with sunrise light creeping over Yosemite’s cliffs.

Sound familiar? That’s basically our guiding philosophy at Echo Adventure Cooperative.

🥾 What is a Camppuccino

When you’re miles down the trail and far from a coffee bar, here’s how to whip up a trail-worthy cappuccino that tastes surprisingly close to the real thing.

☕ Ingredients

  • 1 heaping teaspoon instant espresso powder (Mount Hagen or Café Bustelo work great)

  • 2 tablespoons Nido or Horizon Whole Milk Powder or Meyenberg Powdered Whole Goat Milk

  • 6–8 ounces hot water (just below boiling)

  • Optional: a pinch of cinnamon, cocoa powder, or raw sugar

🔥 Directions

  1. Heat your water — Use your MSR Switch Stove system, Jetboil, or other camp stove

  2. Mix the whole milk powder in a separate mug with a few tablespoons of hot water to create a creamy paste.

  3. Add espresso powder and the rest of the water. Stir briskly.

  4. Froth it up!

    • Use a mini battery frother if you’re fancy.

    • Or shake your mix vigorously in a sealed jar or bottle (careful — vent first to avoid pressure!).

  5. Top with a dash of cinnamon or cocoa, sip, and toast to all the tiny luxuries that make outdoor life magical.

  6. Optional step: Shake up a tablespoon worth of milk and water and gently add it to the top of your campuccino for that signature frothy top!

💬 Pro Tip: Nido adds a creamy, buttery flavor, while powdered goat milk lends a hint of tang — perfect for early-morning hikes when you want something rich but digestible.

🏕️ Where to Celebrate

Wherever you find your quiet moment — that’s your café. Some of our favorite “coffee corners” in Yosemite & the Sierra:

  • The rim at North Dome at sunrise

  • High Above Hetch Hetchy Reservoir at Lake Vernon for morning reflections

  • On a crisp Tuolumne Meadows morning wrapped in a sleeping bag

  • Or right outside your tent at the Basecamp Groveland, surrounded by pines trees and manzanita
