Fishing Yosemite After November 15th

Guests | Members | CommunityEnvironment

It's November 15th. In addition to being the 319th day of the year and the birthday of Georgetown University, Randy Savage, and Dream Kardashian, November 15th sadly marks the end of the California fishing season. BUT do not dispair, to make this day a little easier for everyone we've put together a list of year round fishing opportunities around Yosemite.

Yosemite

  • Only artificial lures or flies with barbless hooks may be used.

  • All of Yosemite's lakes and reservoirs are open to fishing year-round, as well as Cherry Lake located on northwestern boundary of Yosemite.

Tuolumne River

  • Year round fishing is available from the O’Shaughnessy Dam in Hetchy all the way to Clavey Falls along the main fork of the Tuolumne. This is Catch and Release fishing only using artificial lures with barbless hooks only!

  • The Middle Fork and the South Fork of the Tuolumne River ARE CLOSED to fishing after November 15th.

Merced River

  • Year round fishing is available from the western boundary of Yosemite National Park at El Portal boundary downstream to Lake McClure. Only artificial lures with barbless hooks may be used.

  • 5 browns per day with a 10 brown max from the park boundary to Foresta Bridge, and 2 trout of any kind downstream to Lake McClure.

Are Lakes More Your Thing?

  • Pine Mountain Lake is available year round to PML property owners, their guests and vacation rental… renters… yeah, that’s probably what you call them.

  • Don Pedro Resevoir is located along HWY 120 at the bottom of Priest Station Grade between Groveland and the rest of California.

  • Check out this article from mymotherlode.com for more Ideas on Lake fishing. https://www.mymotherlode.com/community/recreation/fishing-mother-lode

Other things to consider during the sufferfest that is winter fishing:

  • Everyone over 16 years old that plans to touch a rod, a reel or a fish must be in possesion of a Californa Fish and Wildlife license.  You can CLICK HERE to buy one online.

  • You must pinch, smash or file the bards on all of your fishing hooks, hence the word barbless.

  • Powerbait is not an artificial lure, so don't use it!

  • Finally, and I can't beleive I have to type this, spear fishing is not allowed on any rivers, lakes, or streams in the area.  No, it doesnt matter if you made it yourself.
